Introduced in 1996 as a replacement to the Caterpillar 826C is the CAT 826G. The Caterpillar 826G came standard with a 3406 engine that produced 471 horsepower, a G-series cab, hydraulic controls and brakes, walk around stairs, integrated steering and transmission controls and landfill spreading blade.
Over the course of its lifespan the CAT 826G went through several modifications including:
- In 1996 added long life coolant to the cooling system
- In 1998 CAT modified the implement control and the transmission gear became programmable
- In 1999 the air conditioning was moved to the roof of the 826G and a hinged oil cooler was added
In 2002 Caterpillar ended production of the 826G which was replaced with the 826 series II compactor.
